Inflammatory insults affect platelet production, but it is yet unknown what mechanisms can drive rapid adaptations in thrombopoiesis. In this issue of Immunity, Petzold etal. (2022) propose that neutrophils "pluck" on megakaryocytes in the bone marrow to tune platelet release.
