Abstract
What is the earliest sign of success for an idea or a trend? If you don't have insider's information like Martha Stewart, the best indication is seeing whether people are trying to associate their names with it. For example, AI has seen some rough patches until Spielberg produced the movie that gave that community credibility. (I wonder if program managers are affected by movie critics and reviews? Oops, there goes my funding for the foreseeable future). Case in point, how many articles have you seen paying tributes to the "father of AI"? How many people do you hear in talks claiming that they were there when the A and the I were separate and they were among the first, but really the very first, to join the two letters together.
