Abstract

In recent decades, the issue of care has been gaining an increasingly relevant place on the agendas of feminist debates and struggles. The pandemic decreed by the spread of the SARS CoV-2 virus revealed both the importance and the unequal distribution of reproductive work. In this paper, we will focus on reflecting on the concept of care from a gender perspective with the aim of deepening the importance of care work in our societies. Through this prism, we will analyze its scope; its relevance in today’s societies; the social organization of care, with special emphasis on the unequal distribution of work; the need to implement public policies aimed at guaranteeing the right to care, be cared for and self-care; and the notion of the care society, a key category in the agenda for sustainable development in the countries of the region.
