Abstract

Abstract Seventy-three barley cultivars and selections have been evaluated in the first four seasons of a programme of regional testing by Crop Research Division, DSIR, at Palmerston North. Most were inferior in yield to the standard cultivar Zephyr, and have been eliminated from further testing. Only three cultivars, Georgie, Hassan, and Kuaka, were superior to Zephyr in yield. In a limited number of trials Ark Royal, Kaniere, Lara, Mata, and Manapou were marginally superior in yield and require more testing.
