Abstract

Abstract Plants from 26 native populations of Fragaria were examined in the greenhouse for their flowering dates, branch crown numbers, flower number, and fruit weight. Flower number per plant was positively correlated with length of flowering period, crowns per plant, and flowers per crown. Total flower number was negatively correlated with fruit weight, but outliers were found with high fruit numbers and large fruit. Large-fruited plants from Scotts Creek Beach, Calif. appeared to be the most promising parents.
