Abstract
We have been succeeding in fabrication of highly transparent ceramics with vacuume sitering method and nanocrystalline technology. Femtosceond ceramic lasers and highly efficient cw ceramic lasers were developed with Yb-doped ceramics. A cw Yb3+-doped Y2O3 ceramic laser was demonstrated with the extraction efficiency of 72 %. A modelocked Yb3+-doped Y2O3 ceramic laser were demonstrated with a semiconductor saturable-absorber mirror. The modelocked laser generated 78 MHz and 615 fs pulses. The average power of 420 mW, and the pulse energy of 4.3 nJ at a 2.5 W absorbed pump power.
