Abstract
This study examines the Americanization of Turkish higher education in field of business administration after US-Turkey rapprochement. The study aims to explore the effects of American influence and roles of so-called ‘Turkish Team” on Turkish business education through personal narratives of the key persons of the period. Individual carriers like professors, advisors and technical experts are important actors as well as institutional actors such as Ford Foundation, AID (Agency for International Development) and Harvard University in the diffusion of management knowledge. For this purpose, a historical narrative approach is constructed to allow for in-depth analysis of American influence on Turkish business education. To reach the aim of the study, the data are gathered from multiple sources that include published and unpublished memoirs, biographies and autobiographies, archival materials, various kinds of text and commentary and archival articles of newspapers, annual reports and yearbooks. Narrative analysis is used in this study to explore the context, content and scope of effects of American influence on Turkish business education. Research results show that, American influence on Turkish business education has various kinds of effects includes teaching and researching styles and departmentalization of business education.
