Abstract

Yangian symmetry has been unraveled recently in a particular class of conformai field theories with SU(N) invariance (the spinon models). Such a symmetry is expected to be at the core of the integrable structure of the corresponding WZW models. However, if we try to characterize the integrability in terms of factorized S-matrices (in particular, S-matrices inherited from massive current-algebras theories), this Yangian symmetry is not the one that fixes these matrices; that is, its generators do not have the expected commutation relations with the S-matrix elements. This hints at the existence of a hidden Yangian symmetry in WZW models. After a brief review of the spinon-type Yangian symmetry in these models, we display a new Yangian algebra whose structure is generic and level independent. This Yangian is the natural extension at the conformai point of the one present in massive theories with current algebras.
