Abstract
People's perception of the world and the social system varies in parallel with the socioeconomic changes. As a result of these changing perceptions, various worldviews/ideologies that claim to make the world a better place emerge. The perception of “self” and “other” forms in parallel with an ideology/ideologies. This essay will examine the novel “Panorama” by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu for clues about three ideologies – Islam, nationalism, and socialism – that came out during the Turkish national movement and the perception of the “other” which is shaped by these ideologies.
