Abstract

For the medium-power solid state laser, growing technologies of large size Nd:YAG crystals, Kr arc lamps, and technologies of laser performance were developed. By a Nd:YAG rod, which sizes are 8mm of diameter and 150mm of length, and a prolate type pumping cavity which minor axis is 30cm, an output power of 365W and a conversion efficiency of 3.6% are obtained. In the Tsukuba Test Plant, the 300W laser beam is switched into two optical fibers alternately, and guided to two laser machining heads. The laser beam is used to cut the chips, which grow from work piece at turning process, and to deburr after mechanical machining of gear. For the medium-power solid state laser, growing technologies of large size Nd:YAG crystals, Kr arc lamps, and technologies of laser performance were developed.
