Abstract

Utiligation of MgO as a buffer layer for LPE(Liquid Phase Epitaxy) growth of YBa 2Cu 3O y (Y123) was investigated. In order to investigate the reaction, the tapes with MgO layers were dipped into the melt of two different compositions. The tape was completely dissolved into the melt without addition of MgO. However, the tape survived in the MgO-saturated solution. The modified LPE process was developed which is the Y123 LPE growth using the Y123 layer saturated with MgO as the second buffer layer to prevent dissolution of the first MgO buffer layer into the melt.
