The present study was conducted to obtain direct evidence regarding the transport pathway of elements of varying phloem mobility from the root to the tuber. A scanning electron microscope coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis was used to identify xylem and phloem tissues of roots, stems, and stolons, and to measure relative elemental concentrations in each type of conductive tissue
