Abstract

Summary A method is given for computing the electrostatic field near a circular aperture in a conducting sheet of finite thickness or near and within a short cylinder with plane end faces. The potential φ(r, z) is the sum of a potential φ 1(r,z) calculated previously by Bertram, and of a correction potential φ c(r,z). In many cases of interest in electron optics or electronic tube design the correction potential φ c(r,z) is the more important term. Tables for the easy determination of φ 1(r,z) and φ c(r,z) are presented.
