Abstract
In this chapter, the authors outline how their systemic approach emerged out of conceptual and practical considerations of their conflict transformation work - especially from their engagement in Sri Lanka. The chapter provides a short definition of systemic conflict transformation and systemic thinking. Systematic approaches to conflict transformation and systemic thinking help to deal with the challenges in this field. Systemic thinking has a two fold value. On the one hand, it serves as a conceptual and theoretical frame work for practioners and scholars. On the other hand, it offers a set of methodologies and tools which can inspire, enrich and guide conflict transformation practice. The systemic approach to conflict transformation helps internal and external actions to reflect on the complexity of the conflict. Conflict transformation is a learning process, just as all successful peace processes are processes of successful learning.
