Abstract

New bores put down since the publication of the Geological Survey Map of Cathcart and Eastwood parishes (sheets 13 and 17 of the 6-inch scale), show that it stands in need of correction and extension. I have therefore attempted to correct some of the mistakes, and to represent more fully the outcrop of the limestones. The accompanying sheet of bore sections will explain my reasons for the alterations (Plate VI.) Bore Sections .—Twenty-nine sections of 31 bores have been drawn and numbered, and the position of the bores has been marked on the map (Plate V.) with corresponding numbers in red ink. Section 1 is made up of three bores, of which 1 a is from the surface of the ground to the pavement of the thin coal under the Orchard cement; 1 b from thence to the pavement of the Cowglen limestone; and 1 c from thence to 26 fathoms below the Cowglen limestone. In bore 1 b the pavement of the coal is 4 feet, and in bore 1 c the pavement of the limestone is 9 fathoms, from the surface of the ground. Position of the Bores .—The exact position of some of the bores is not known. These are Nos. 4, 5, and 6, which were put down somewhere in Davieland, round the boundaries of which a black line has been drawn; bores 8, 10, 11, and 18, somewhere within the red circles drawn over the numbers; and bore 14 a , said to have been put down in the same field as bore 14 b .
