Abstract
The article analyses the process of formation and development of coronations of Russian monarchs in XVI-XVIII centuries. The author comes to the conclusion that in the coronation ceremony Russian, Byzantine and Western European traditions were interweaved. The character of the ceremony was the evidence of the growing power of Russian emperors and stressed its sacral aspects.
