Abstract

The structure of a bismuth based oxide, Bi 2 O 3 :V 2 O 5 =9:1, has been studied by X-ray diffraction. This crystal has a fluorite type superstructure with 3×3×3 subcells. Vanadium atoms are located at every third layers along the [111] axis and occupy the third neighbor sites of the fcc lattice. The oxygen vacancies are concentrated at nearest neighbor sites of the vanadium atoms.
