Abstract
The magnetically ordered compounds U 3M 2M 3′ where M = Al, Ga and M′ = Si, Ge were investigated by computing their electronic band structure and measuring the X-ray photoemission spectra (XPS). The band structure was calculated by the tight-binding linear muffin-tin orbital (TB-LMTO) method in atomic spheres approximation (ASA). The XPS was measured in vacuum (∼5 × 10 −10 Torr) on freshly cleaved surfaces of the samples. The valence band spectra agree rather well with the measured ones. The satellite structure of the deep U(4f) lines was recovered and discussed.
