Abstract

An x-ray analog of the classic Fresnel rhomb can be devised using multiple Bragg reflections from a perfect crystal. A single, channel-cut crystal can provide phase shifts between coherent \ensuremath{\sigma} and \ensuremath{\pi} polarizations ranging from 0\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} to 200\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}. Rapid alterations between left and right circular polarizations can be obtained through a simple angular shift provided by a piezoelectric drive.
