Abstract
Results of x-ray measurements at room and at low temperatures for a wide variety of materials show that non-stoichiometry or added elements inhibit the low temperature phase transformation. Effects of additives including Ti, Ta, Aℓ, Ga, In and Be are considered. A very narrow range of room temperature lattice parameter from 5.2890 Å to 5.2915 Å leads to low temperature transformation. At present we have no unambiguous evidence which shows that strain directly affects the phase transformation at low temperature.
