Abstract Six fields containing BL Lacertae objects are observed with the Imaging Proportional Counter (IPC) of the Einstein Observatory. Five out of six BL Lacertae objects (3C 66 A, PKS 0548-322, 1400 + 162, 4C 14.60, and OY 091) are found to be soft X-ray sources. The object 3C 66 A is observed to vary by 25% on a time scale of approximately 53 hours. Eight other X-ray sources are detected in these fields, one of which is extended.
