Abstract

The precipitation of hydrides in Ti-base alloys were studied. It was found that commercial ..cap alpha.. titanium alloys with 0.01 to 0.03 percent H have a complex phase composition and contain precipitates of saturated and unsaturated cubic hydrides, and also regions of the matrix supersaturated with hydrogen. Under ordinary conditions, no hydrides are precipitated in ..cap alpha.. + ..beta.. alloys with the same hydrogen concentration. Titanium hydrides may be precipitated during welding and with application of stresses in zones with an elevated hydrogen content. Precipitation of titanium hydrides favors stabilization of microstresses in the lattice of ..cap alpha.. titanium.
