Abstract

Abstract The valence-band structure of the solid solutions URh1−xRuxGe with x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.35, 0.375 and 0.4 have been investigated by means of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. Instead of the observation of a progressive change in the XPS DOS structure with increasing Ru content, we found a sudden change near the composition of x = 0.375, where the non-Fermi liquid state was previously reported to set in. We show also that the magnetism of the studied alloys is due to itinerant electron and the main contribution to the DOS near the Fermi level is derived from the hybridized 5f–4d states.
