Abstract

The present work focused on preparing Geopolymer using water glass (Na2SiO3, W) and anhydrous borax (Na2SiO3 + B4Na2O7, B) as an activation media for FA/GGBS blend as a source of silica and alumina was studied. A shift in Geopolymer fingerprint, Si–O–T band in Bp to lower wave number at 987 cm−1 compared to Wp (1008 cm−1) is noteworthy. High strength mixes with improved workability achieved in Bp through more Q3 and Q4 cross-polymeric link network with more Al(IV) incorporation. Transformations of 3T ring form of boron to Q4 (tetrahedral) site confirmed from B11NMR. FESEM/EDAX showed denser matrix in Bp confirming fully condensed geopolymer. XPS lines of O(1s), Si(2p), Al(2p), and Ca(2p) used for bond identification, and results showed that the enhancement of non-bridging oxygen sites in Bp as well the reduction in binding energy of all elemental lines. The combined spectral date showed that boron is part of the geopolymer network structure.
