Abstract

Results on Xe/sup 133/ diffusion in irradiated UC are described for the first series of experiments on two UC powder preparations. The powders were irradiated for 0.5 hr in a thermal neutron flux of 10/sup 13/ nv, and diffusion anneals were carried out at different temperatures. The xenon release data are treated assuming the release is diffusion controlled and the powders are perfect spheres of uniform size. The diffusion coefficients for the two powders are in good agreement, and a plot of their logarithms vs 1/T gives D = 2.1 x 10/sup -5/ exp (-85,100/RT) at 1000 to 1400 deg C. (D.L.C.)
