Abstract

In this paper, a compact XeCl laser system made up of an oscillator and an amplifier is described. By applying to the amplifier a stimulated Brillouin scattering mirror (SBSM), an output laser beam of optical and spectral characteristic very close to those of the oscillator has been obtained. By realizing a phase conjugate cavity, 1.6 m long, formed by a SBSM and a quartz flat window, a pulse train made of pulse separated by the cavity round trip time has been obtained. The first pulse was 8 ns long while the last pulse was shorter than 2 ns.
