Abstract

Investigation of regional lung function with Xe133-radiospirometry and I131-MAA- scintigraphy in children with congenital malformations of the pulmonary arteries gave information above that obtained with angiographies. The new information was of value for the management of the patients. Xe133-radiospirometry and I131-MAA-scintigraphy were found to be complimentary methods but radiospirometry is considered to be the first choice method: it gives information not only of regional perfusion but also of regional volume and ventilation and, furthermore, the absorbed radiation dose with radiospirometry is much lower than that with scintigraphy.
