Abstract

The Debye-Waller (DW) factors for Nb and Sn atoms in the intermetallic compound ${\mathrm{Nb}}_{3}$Sn have been determined by x-ray intensity measurements on a single crystal. The results are found to be in satisfactory agreement with the theory for both the angular and temperature dependence of the scattering. The data can be fitted by assigning Debye temperatures of 318 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K and 262 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K to the Nb and Sn atoms, respectively. We are unable to confirm the anomalously large value of the DW factor found in a M\ossbauer-effect study.
