Abstract

The crystal structures of thallium sulfide and thallium selenide in the pressure range of 0 to 37 GPa are studied. Three first order phase transitions are found in TlS: TlS I (TlSe-type) → TlS II (α-NaFeO2-type) → TlS III (distorted α-NaFe2O-type) → TlS IV (CsCl-type) at p = 5, 10, and 25 GPa, respectively. Phase TlS II is metastable under normal conditions and reveals semiconductor properties. A first order transition to the CsCl-type is found in TlSe at 21 GPa. The equations of state for TlS and TlSe are determined. [Russian Text Ignored].
