Abstract
To clarify the difference in the amorphous structures between NiTiAl and CuTiAl ternary alloy glasses, radial distribution function (RDF) analysis has been made through X-ray diffraction measurements. The structural parameters, such as the first peak position of G( r), the ratio of the second peak position to the first peak position, and the coordination number, are compared over the glass-forming regions in both systems. In NiTiAl the structure has a strong composition dependence and shows a similar short-range order to the crystalline NiTi 2 and NiTiAl intermetallic compounds, while in CuTiAl, such a similarity is not found and the structure is rather homogeneous throughout the glass-forming range.
