Abstract

An eighty-year-old question answered: The basic structural element of monoorganotin acids (see structure) is formed by cyclo-tristannoxanes in a chairlike conformation with ligands bonded to the Sn3O3 heterocycle in equatorial positions. The three axial hydroxy groups display a cis arrangement. Thus the fundamental structural element of this class of compounds is elucidated.
