Abstract

X-ray powder diagrams have been taken of crystals of a high molecular weight protein component prepared by Kaper (1960 b , foregoing paper) from turnip yellow mosaic virus by alkali degradation. The X-ray diagrams are indistinguishable from those of the natural, nucleic acid-free top component associated with the virus, and thus support the conclusion that Kaper's protein component corresponds to the intact protein shell of the virus devoid of RNA.
