Abstract

The X-ray photoelectron spectra of NiMn 2O 4, NiMnZnO 4, Mn 2TiO 4 MnFe 2O 4, and Mn 3O 4 are reported. The shift and broadening of the Mn-2 p, Mn-3 s, and Mn-3 p lines in NiMn 2O 4, compared with those of the other compounds, are indicative of the change distribution Ni 2+ 1−ν Mn 2+ ν[ Ni 2+ ν Mn 3+ 2(1−ν) Mn 4+ ν] O 4 (ν ⋍ 0.9) . The values of multiplet splitting of the Mn-3 s level also support this support this distribution.
