Abstract

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA) has been employed to document in detail the dynamic segregation of Be to the surface of a Cu-2.0 wt.% Be alloy. The key property is the photoelectron (insulator) charge shift, which we have monitored using an electron flood gun. The technique should prove applicable to many other systems with similar (insulator- conductor) compositions.
