Abstract

The satellite reflections and the diffuse scattering of the intermediate phase (IP) of quartz in the α–β phase transition, particularly associated with (01̄, 1) Bragg reflection, were studied by the X-ray intensity measurements. The temperature was well controlled (±0.05 K). The individual satellite of a single rotation domain is angularly sharp (30 sec. at most) over the whole range of IP. The integrated intensity depends upon the modulation vectors qi, and the temperature. A weak hump of the diffuse scattering starts to appear gradually from 11 K above the critical point TQ in the cooling run.
