Abstract
A review of the literature shows that x-ray induced lung adenomas in mice, breast adenomas in rats and thyroid adenomas in rats show the same approximate dependence for number of tumors vs dose. It is hypothesized that these benign tumors are due to cell proliferation. The controls of the G 1 stage of the cell cycle have been affected by mutation, such that the time in G 1 is very small. In carcinogenesis it is M that is affected.
