Abstract

1. 1. The x-ray filter head and film holder control the relationship of the x-ray source to the film by means of a fixed system. 2. 2. This attachment utilizes the most central and parallel x-rays. The film holder holds the film at right angles to the central rays at a controlled distance. 3. 3. The film holder itself eliminates movement and bending of the film, which may cause distortion of the subject. 4. 4. A lead shield reduces the radiation area to approximately the size of the film itself. 5. 5. Eight by 10 inch film in cassettes reveals reduction of area of radiation to the patient to be approximately four to five times less than with the conventional cone head. 6. 6. A uniform and detailed record of the oral structures is recorded on the film.
