Abstract
An electronic instrumentation system, developed for use in X-ray experiments to be flown on high-altitude balloons and rockets, is described. The system selects and analyzes output pulses from X-ray detector proportional counters and scintillating crystals, arranges the desired data in a PCM format and feeds this digital data at a 50 kHz to 100 kHz bit rate to the telemetry transmitter. The system is designed to minimize power drain, weight and volume, while maintaining a high degree of reliability. The system has operated successfully in a 1968 rocket flight. Additional rocket and balloon flights, making use of variations of this system, are planned for the near future.
