Abstract

Molybdenum Kᾱ X-radiation (λ=0.71069Å), monochromated by a graphite crystal, was scattered in liquid naphthalene at 368K. The mean angular distribution function of intensity was determined and the differential radial distribution function of electron density (DRDF) was calculated. The mean structural parameters of liquid naphthalene (inter- and intramolecular distances, radii of coordination spheres, and packing coefficient) were determined and discussed. Computer techniques were used to minimise the effects of experimental errors, uncertainties in the scattering factors, and termination errors. A simple model of short-range ordering in the liquid studied was proposed.
