Abstract
The trirutile family of the tapiolite-like compoundFexNi1−xTa2O6 was investigated by means of x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and magnetic susceptibilitymeasurements. From Rietveld refinement it is demonstrated that the family is ahomogeneous solid solution obeying Vegard’s law. Magnetic susceptibility curves exhibittypical signatures of low-dimensional systems, with broadened maxima due to short rangecorrelations immediately above the antiferromagnetic transition temperatureTN.The T versus x phase diagram presents a minimum that suggests bicritical behaviour.
