Abstract

This paper describes the X-ray diffraction results of investigations aimed at finding the most suitable experimental conditions for improving the detection limit of pyrite (FeS2) and pyrrhotite (Fe 1−x S) contained in aggregates. The type of radiation, the system of detection, aperture and detector slits etc. are discussed. A method of quantitative analysis using fluorite (CaF2) as an internal standard is suggested and the selection of pyrite and pyrrhotite reflections is discussed.
