Abstract

We report on large-area twin structures in Bi 2Ca 1Sr 2Cu 2O 8 crystals. The twins were growth twins on the (001) basal face with (110) type twin walls. Four-circle X-ray diffraction methods were used to establish the crystallographic relationships between twins. A shear angle of less than 0.1° was experimentally determined, which was significantly less than a theoretical estimate of 0.42° from lattice parameter values. Twin morphology and twin formation are discussed in the context of twin formation.
