Abstract

1. Borocementite Fe3(C, B) synthesized by annealing (at 850°C) of powdered cementite and boron as well as Armco iron, graphite, and boron was identified by x-ray analysis. From the change in the lattice parameters it was determined that the borocementite contained 5.2% B. 2. Borocementite Fe3(C, B) containing 2.2% B was found in the surface layers of gray and chilled cast iron and also steel U10 after diffusion saturation with powdered boron at 900°C.
