Abstract

The temperature dependence of the near edge structure x-ray absorption spectra was investigated on the molten Ba 3Cu 5O 8 doped with 0.5% Y/Nd in air. Our results show that with increasing temperature the Cu K-edge is shifted in negative energy side in each system, which indicates the reduction in relative Cu valence. Further, this effect is more pronounced in the Y system compared to the Nd system. Therefore, it is considered that the structural change related with the substitution in NdBCO has occurred already in the Nd doped liquid before its crystal growth.
