Abstract

In order to investigate the variation of the electronic structure of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ depending on its oxygen nonstoichiometry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy of the material annealed under various oxygen partial pressures was performed. Co/Fe L-edge XANES spectra indicated that the mean valence of Co ion decreased with decreasing oxygen partial pressure, while that of Fe ion was almost independent of oxygen partial pressure. This suggested that Co ion rather than Fe ion preferentially compensated the charges caused by the formation of oxygen vacancies.
