Abstract

A certain mutation in the is2 gene of Saccharomyces resulting in isoleucine and valine dependence also gives rise to an increase in resistance to ionising radiation in diploid cells under certain conditions. This increase in radiation resistance is due to an increase in short-time recovery as well as a decrease in long-term recovery (e. g. liquid-holding recovery). Possible mechanisms for this effect are discussed.
