Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the usefulness of the resources of official statistics for metrology analysis and the assessment of the impact of metrology on the economy. Official statistics provide key information for metrology, including in particular: macroeconomic data, industrial output, corporate financial performance, science, technology and innovation statistics, as well as employment and income data. Conclusions from such a data analysis can help policymakers, business people and academic and research institutions understand the role of metrology in the economy, identify areas in need of support or investment, and plan strategies for the development of metrology-related sectors.
