Introduction : Educating children and young people is an investment in the future of societies and the world. According to Professor Mieczysław Łobocki, the first head of the Department of Educational Theory at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, education should be aimed at supporting pupils in their development, respecting their personal dignity, addressing their emotions and needs, and ensuring their right to freedom and taking responsibility for their actions. Research Aim: This is a review article showing how Professor Mieczysław Łobocki’s theory of education is developed on the 50th anniversary of the Department of Educationa Theory in the research work of its current employees. Evidence-based Facts : The keynote of professor Łobocki’s idea of upbringing is his deep conviction that every pupil, just like every adult, is a human being with all their rights. Employees of the Department of Educational Theory try to develop this idea by undertaking research related to the educational process. Summary : Despite the various directions of research undertaken in the Department, the most important thing is not to lose sight of the key value, which is respect for the personal dignity of children and young people.
