Abstract
The aim of the paper is to demonstrate that 'sustainable future', being an effect of implementing the concept of sustainable development, is not realistic given the scale and pace of environmental transformation. The sustainability of ecosystems, so seriously affected, cannot be restored without changing current production and consumption patterns. The promotion of the idea of corporate social responsibility and sustainable consumption based on environmentally friendly lifestyles can be a starting point in the process of creating positive changes in the human-environmental relationship. However, the prerequisite for positive change is to strengthen the so-called deeper ecological awareness, the essence of which is a new paradigm - different from the one accepted today - of understanding the natural world and the place and role of man in the environment.

W latach osiemdziesiątych zaczęto upowszechniać wiedzę o zakresie problemów ekologicznych, widocznych przede wszystkim w krajach Trzeciego Świata, oraz kwestionować koncepcje rozwoju zorientowane wyłącznie na: wzrost produkcji, konsumpcji i eksploatację przyrody. Realizacja jej celów, w szczególności w obszarze ekologii, jest jednak daleka od założeń, że współczesna ekonomia [wciąż – przyp. Że „zrównoważona przyszłość”, jako efekt realizacji koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju, nie jest realna w obliczu skali i tempa przeobrażeń w środowisku na skutek działalności człowieka.
