Abstract

ObjectiveThe aim of this epidemiological and clinical analysis was estimation of prevalence of congenital malformations in children in comparison to birth order. Material and MethodsThe epidemiological analysis included total 192 438 children aged 0–2 born in 1988–2007 in Zielona Góra province (1988–1997) and Lubuskie province (1998–2007). ResultsIn the analyzed 20-years period was confirmed that prevalence of congenital malformations was higher in neonates from 4th and later deliveries, especially in relation to multiple malformations of genetic etiology (certainly Down syndrome) and congenital heart defects. ConclusionsFurther birth order was associated with a higher prevalence of congenital malformations in neonates.
